Thirteenth Annual Bonagany Festival to Be Held September 23rd - By Lori Bennett-Kolasa
Bonagany Festival 2017 will be our thirteenth year of celebrating friendship between the community of Allegany and St. Bonaventure University! Bonagany has something to offer for everyone in the family. Children will enjoy a variety of free activities, including several large inflatable amusement, a caricature artist, Gravitational Bull juggler show, photo booth and more all for free. The festival offers adults the opportunity to enjoy the work of regional artists, local eateries, festival food, and local music acts. The festival was founded in 2005 with the mission of celebrating both the community of Allegany, NY and St. Bonaventure University and the friendship between them. Held on Bonaventure's annual Family Weekend, the festival showcases the best of St. Bonaventure University and offers a great opportunity for parents to get out and enjoy the community. This year will feature music all day beginning at 11am with The Chumps, Channel Six Band from 12-1pm, not Norman from 2pm-3pm, Sticktights from 3pm-4pm, and Digginâ€™ Roots Band from 4pm-5pm. A juggling act by Gravitational Bull will perform under the music tent from1pm-2pm. The very talented Aileen Wintermantle and Daveen Horton of The Honey Punks will also be performing between music acts! We will offer festival foods and treats from Fowlerâ€™s Taffy (taffy, caramel and candy apples, cotton candy and fresh squeezed lemonade), Creekside Dough (fried dough, pretzel dogs, chili dogs, French fries, chili fries, soda and water), Larryâ€™s Food Wagon (sausage sandwiches, steak sandwiches and hamburgers), Sinfully Delicious (taco in a bag, bbq pulled pork panini, sloppy joes, onion loaf, mozzarella sticks, C&P pizza, boneless wings, funnel cake, fried dough, churros kettle corn), Reeds Concessions (Curly Fries, hot dogs, lemonade) and Ask Kickinâ€™ BBQ ribs and wood fired pizza. In addition, Main Street businesses and restaurants will have their doors open for festival goers. Festival chairperson Lori Bennett-Kolasa, who has chaired this event for the last 11 years, encourages everyone to visit Allegany's Main Street on September 23rd. She said of the event, "I am incredibly proud to continue to be a part of such an amazing community festival. Bonagany has grown over the past 11 years to become an event that everyone in Allegany and at St. Bonaventure University can look forward to. Our initial goal was to improve the relationship between the university and the community and I believe we've met that goal. Bonagany is truly a celebration for all to enjoy. The goal with this festival is to further enhance the neighborly relationships between residents, the business community, local government and the University and to continue to build bridges that connect our families, churches, the school and the community.
